EXCEL 2010-2007 : DROP-DOWN LIST OF ITEMS INSIDE A CELL

How do I create such a list (not a form combo box) ?

Here below what I would like to get :

drop-down list in a cell to choose months

Answer : use the data validation functionality

Select the required cell
DATA Tab - DATA TOOLS Group - DATA VALIDATION Button

In the first tab, select LIST then indicate the required items : it can either be a range of cells in the sheet (and only in the current sheet) or you can type each item separately (as in the below screen capture). In the latter case, there is an advantage : there is nothing outside

creating the drown-down list items

Use the INPUT MESSAGE Tab to set a help message when the user clicks on the cell.

Use the ERROR ALERT Tab to set what will happen when the user tries to manually type a non-authorized data. But caution : do not think that this is a guarantee of security. It is only a sort of "typing help" as a copy-paste bypasses any error alert !

You can define other "typing help" than a drop-down list of items. But it works on the same principle.

Form fields rather than data validation ?
Yes of course, you may create a combo box, a check box, a radio button ... using form fields but this is slightly more complicated.
