WORD 2010-2007 : MAILMERGE WITH EXCEL

WORD DOES NOT DISPLAY EXCEL DATES/NUMBERS CORRECTLY

Indeed and it is useless to try to change the source format in Excel thinking it will help ! Word ignores Excel formats and applies it own default format (and of course it is never what you need ...)

Solution : add a switch to the Word merge field code

Word automatically includes switches for quite a few field codes (OPTIONS button) :

2010- 2007 : INSERT Tab - TEXT Group - QUICKPART Button

the field code DATE and its switches

The MERGEFIELD code only includes case switches (min-maj). But you can manually add any other switch. Moreover, if the field should have a special format such as bold for example, it will be lost next time it is updated, so also tick the PRESERVE FORMATTING .... option.

Date

Here after the final result in Word : {MERGEFIELD Date \@ "dd.MM.yy" \*MERGEFORMAT}

Number

Example 1 : source number in Excel displays 1 decimal only (for example 1234.6). In Word it could look like this : 1234.6000000000000001
Result if you add the # numeric picture switch : { MERGEFIELD Note \# #'##0.0 \*MERGEFORMAT}
Example 2 : with a currency format : { MERGEFIELD Invoice \# "CHF #'##0.00" }

No quotes for simple numeric pictures (such as above example) but quotes for more complex ones (including spaces, text ...).
Spaces are important : the one before the back slash for instance
